ZIP 20152 is the complication. It is generally tied to the South Riding area of Loudoun County, even though its mailing name is Chantilly. A ZIP code is a postal area, not a jurisdiction, so the parcel decides. Loudoun has its own building office, so for those homes confirm the rules with the county that holds the parcel. Names that get mistaken for Chantilly
- Sully Station and Virginia Run: both are Centreville communities, so see roofing in Centreville.
- Greenbriar: a separate census place with homes dating from the late 1960s, next door but not inside Chantilly.
- Newgate: a Centreville community, per a listing site.
- Ellanor C. Lawrence Park: a county park authority park off Walney Road, not a homeowners association.
- Ox Hill Battlefield Park: near Chantilly, on West Ox Road, with a Fairfax mailing address.
- Poplar Tree Estates and Pleasant Valley: real-estate sites date them to about 1979 through 1994. Check the association covenants before choosing a material or color.
Sully and the county design review
Historic Sully, at 3650 Historic Sully Way, is a National Register property whose buildings date from 1794 to 1801. The Sully Historic Overlay District around it is one of the county's 15, and the Architectural Review Board covers exterior alterations there that need a building permit. Which homes lie inside the boundary is a parcel question for the county. If you live near it, call the board before work is planned.
Associations may have their own design review, so have your governing documents ready before a material is chosen.
Westfields, a business park
Westfields is mostly offices, planned in 1985 on roughly 1,027 acres zoned largely industrial, and parts have since been rezoned for housing. Office and industrial buildings often carry low-slope roofs. A larger roof in a business park starts with a walk of the deck, drains and equipment before any scope is written. Getting around: roads and access
Chantilly centers on the interchange of Route 28, called Sully Road in Fairfax County, and Route 50, which the county renamed from Lee Jackson Memorial Highway in July 2023. Stringfellow Road runs south from Route 50 past Chantilly Regional Library and Chantilly High School. Westfields Boulevard threads the office parks, Walney Road passes Ellanor C. Lawrence Park, and Centreville Road runs north toward Herndon and the Dulles Toll Road. Interstate 66 meets Route 28 just south of the area, and Washington Dulles International Airport lies to the north.
