TPO roofing for flat sections in Vienna, VA

What TPO does well on a house-sized roof
The major makers sell sheets 8, 10 and 12 feet wide, so a flat addition roof of 14 by 18 feet can often be covered with only a handful of field seams. Each seam is hot-air welded into a continuous layer and then probed. Weathered membrane gets a cleaner before it is welded, which is why a repair on an old TPO roof is a cleaning job first.

Vienna is a Town, yet Fairfax County is the building official inside it. The Town's Department of Planning and Zoning reviews the same applications for Town zoning, and any change to the roof height needs Town approval, so a new parapet or deep tapered insulation that lifts the roofline is a conversation with the Town first.
Whether a plain re-cover of a flat section triggers either review is not settled on the published pages, so we confirm with the Town and the county before we start. Trade research notes that early TPO formulas failed young, while current sheets are tested harder. Drainage, installation and upkeep decide the real number. A manufacturer warranty may be available for some systems, with terms in writing.
